Glad they decided to take it down, the MV for the Asia market are much better. Even the BoA stylist in behind the scene said to Diane that he was going to make BoA pretty but cool, since sexy is not her thing..
Good luck for BoA, I really do hope she will success. With better song and MV next time.

It’s better promotion for BoA with the Asian version. I don’t exactly like this song however it’s catchy. I wish her luck for trying to break into the US Music Industry. At least she has some hope with the Asian version, the American version was just something people could make an asian-stereotype parody of.

It doesn’t matter what mv is used, she’s still a dud and her fans buying up multiple copies to increase her ranking, as if the itunes dance chart matters, are not gonna make any difference. The real test is the billboard hot 100 and once people hear her do any kind of interview, it’s really over! She probably can’t even explain her own song without a translator. People who don’t know her are either gonna laugh at her or completely ignore her. No crossover appeal whatsoever.

yeah you can call it ambition but it’s all part of the business. they hired Martel thinking she’ll be able to “please” the audience, since she’s american after all. they should’ve taken the risk with the korean director in the first place. they wanted to bring BOA [and Korea in a way] to the american entertainment anyway, so it’s better to have a little korean touch in the first place.

Ah! Thank GOD is right! That English MV was horrible! The Korean one is so much better. Hopefully Dian Martel is professional enough that she won’t take it personally. It might just be me, but it seemed like she was trying to sabotage Boa’s debut. I’ve seen some of her other work and none of them were this bad.

funny story: i was working on a pset in one of my friend’s room when my friend’s friend [who doesn't listen to asian music or follow the asian music scene] comes in and starts playing “eat you up” on his computer. i talked to him about the song and he absolutely LOVES it. then, i mentioned the asian version of the mv and he was like omg, there’s an asian version of the mv? i’ve only seen the american version. and i was like oh yeah, there is an asian version. he totally agrees that the asian version straight up beats the american version and wonders why the asian version wasn’t promoted as the main version.

i’m so glad the asian version is now the main version because that american version was seriously a mess.

we have to accept the fact that right now, the world is still in a bad place where racial equity is concerned. the reason why crouching tiger, hidden dragon kicked ass in the western world was because it enforced a stereotype, all asians are kung-fu masters. movies that hinted at jacky chan being a bit western bombed at the box office.

the lesson to be learned? let’s just be ourselves, we’re asians, and it’s ok to be this way. if they just made the song and the mv true to who we are, i think we might have made more of an impact. we would’ve gotten respect.
